Frequently Asked Questions About Our Tests

How to perform a urine pH test?

Follow the steps below to accurately perform a urine pH test:

  1. Collect a Fresh Urine Sample - Begin by collecting a fresh urine sample in a clean, dry container. Ensure the container is free from any contaminants or residues, as these could affect the accuracy of the test.
  2. Prepare the Test Strip - Open the pouch containing the test strips and remove one strip, taking care not to touch the test pads with your fingers. This prevents any oils or contaminants on your hands from affecting the test. Immediately reseal the pouch to protect the remaining strips from exposure to moisture and light.
  3. Immerse the Test Strip

    • Carefully immerse the test strip into the urine sample, ensuring that both test pads on the strip are fully submerged.
    • Immediately remove the strip from the urine sample, gently dragging the edge of the strip against the rim of the container to remove excess urine. This step is crucial for preventing oversaturation of the test pads, which could lead to inaccurate results.
    • Start timing the 30 seconds immediately after removing the strip from the urine.
    • Blot the Strip: Gently blot the side of the strip on a paper towel to remove any remaining excess urine. This step helps ensure that the test pads do not become too saturated, which could interfere with the color development.
  4. Position the Strip - Place the test strip horizontally on a clean, dry paper towel. This position allows the strip to dry evenly, ensuring accurate color development.
  5. Reading the Results
  • Wait exactly 30 seconds after wetting the pads before reading the results. Timing is crucial, as the color on the pads may continue to develop if left longer.
  • Compare the color of the test pads to the corresponding row of color blocks on the provided color key. Make sure you are in a well-lit area to accurately match the colors.
  • Read the results carefully at the 30-second mark. Disregard any color changes that occur after one minute, as they do not hold any diagnostic significance.
